I always believed that Latin America would be my luck place. And it proved I was right. At the age of twenty five, single and inexperienced, I went to Argentina to learn more Spanish and for a wonderful life. About half a year later, I met the man of my life. He is a French guy, Luc. And we met on a birthday party of one of my students. I was teaching English at a Sunday school, and that student was his boss’s son. It was love at first sight.

The more time we spent together, the more that we knew about each other. The reason why he chose to live in Latin America was complicated. He grew up in a single parent family. That’s why in his eyes you can see sadness and solitary. “Tell me about yourself.” I said to him. “If I do, you would feel sorry for me. At the age of ten, they got divorced because my father fell in love with some other woman. Ever since they divorced, all my mother did was complaining. You know my childhood was full of darkness.” “Oh, baby, come here.” I hugged him and then it was our first kiss. He never loved his father and he was tired of her mother’s complaining. When we started dating, he became more active and whenever I saw smiles on his face, my heart got warm.

But one day, he came into my house in a hurry and told me the big news-his mother had lung cancer. He had to fly back to France, but before he went, he asked if I would like to go with him. I said I would. Paris is a fantastic city, the city of romance and the city of fashion. If there was one thing that I like best, that would be the links of London store. They’ve got various jewelry of different designs, links of London earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. But we were not in the mood of doing shopping, because Luc’s mother was in the hospital. His mother was quite surprised when she saw me. “Luc never brought any girl home.” She smiled and kissed me. Luc had mixed feelings. He knew how much his mother loved him and how much pain she had experienced, but now when she needed him most, he left home, just trying to find a place where there were no burdens.

When Luc went to buy the lunch, his mother talked with me in private. “This is out of my expectation. You must mean a lot for Luc. You might have heard Luc talk about his childhood. I failed to give him a happy family and all my complaining~~” she cried. I tried to comfort: “It’s not your fault. And I am sure Luc understands it.” “I hope you can give him the happiness he deserves.” She said to me and in the meantime, took out a pair of links of London necklaces: “There are a lot of links of London stores here. And this is my present for you. Maybe I can’t see you to get married. Take it.” She handed them to me.

When Luc came back and saw my earrings, there were tears on his face. He hugged his mother and said: “Thank you for everything. I never blamed you.”
